Today was our second day with the potty in the house and our first full day of potty training. It took some bribing, dancing, and a lot if drinking. But, I'm very proud to announce that Talent peed in the potty twice! It wasn't much, but every tiny but matters when you are teaching a stubborn boy about how to potty without a diaper.
We started off the morning with a pull-up so he could have breakfast without having to feel out of his comfort zone. But as soon as breakfast was done and I had gotten myself ready, it was time for naked day. He doesn't respond well to the pull ups. To him they are just like a diaper. The underwear aren't a whole lot better at this point either. With him completely naked he noticed when he needed to pee and he would beg for a diaper. Finally he got a little bit of a break for lunch. We put on a pull up and headed out for lunch. He ate and then took a nap. After nap it was back to naked time. He did really well. He finally sat on the potty and took a water break and peed in the potty on accident. He was a little startled and upset at first. But then he realized he got stickers for peeing in the potty and all was well again. After a while it was time for dinner and we attempted to eat with him in undies but he couldn't get comfortable. Finally he had a small accident so I put him in a pull up and told him that accidents happen and it was okay. He realized he wasn't in trouble so he went back and finished his supper. After supper we went and got his bath ready and he got all cleaned up. He was getting a little whiney and so we got out of there to get ready for bed. I was ready to call it a day. He started to pee on me (joy of potty training) as I was carrying him to his room. We quickly got to the potty and he finished on the potty. It wasn't much, but it was pee in the potty and that called for a celebration and more stickers! This time he wasn't scared. He even smiled and celebrated a little with me. He didn't want to get dressed then. So I let him stay naked for a little bit longer. When my mom showed up to visit he was still naked. But he was so excited to show her his new potty! That shows me that he's getting excited too. He likes to show off things he is proud of. So I was excited to see him so excited. I think the next few days may be a little harder. Seth is home and has things he wants to do. Staying here and letting T be naked all day may not be an option. But the seed has been planted at least. So I'm excited to see the progress he makes.

Ernie goes potty.
Lately Talent has been showing an interest in the potty. He touches himself when he pees to let me know he is going, runs and grabs a diaper and wipes when he had pooped, and has started wanting to sit on this potty we have that is a little too big for him. So, Seth and I bought him a potty and it arrived today. I got him an "Elmo Potty Time" video also. Today when his potty and video arrived I went and picked it up. We took a trip to the store to buy him a package of pull-ups too. While there we stopped to look at underwear because I've been told some children don't respond well to pull-ups and train better in regular undies because they don't like feeling wet. I didn't plan on buying those today but T saw some Thomas undies and started making his "choo choo" sound until I handed them to him. He is super excited about those underwear.
We got home and had lunch. I let him have a soda (which I don't do often) and tried to jump start his little bladder. We put on his pull-up and he played a little while. I got the potty out and showed it to him. I played the Elmo video. He sat on the potty and looked at me like I was a crazy lady. He never peed. He took his nap and woke up dry.
When Talent got up from his nap I have him a glass of ice water and sent him to play. He finally peed but I don't know that he really even noticed. So this afternoon I got Ernie out and put some undies on him. I grabbed a medicine dropper and filled it with water and brought Ernie to the living room. I made a big deal about Ernie needing to use the potty. He watched as Ernie sat on the potty and "tee tee'd". When Ernie was done I clapped and screamed "yay Ernie! He pottied like a big boy!" Talent clapped and then wanted to sit on the potty too.
Since Ernie's big potty adventure, Talent keeps taking him to the potty. He hasn't say on it again himself. It's a start though. I will gladly take it. I think he will take a few days to get comfortable with the potty but once he does, I think he will be an easy one to train. He's super smart and if he's rewarded for doing a good thing, he just glows. He's like his momma that way. I hate feeling like I'm in trouble. But make me feel like I'm doing a good thing and I will move heaven and earth for you. I love to be praised. Hate to be talked down to. My child is going to be a lot like that I'm afraid. He already loves to be nurtured and hates to be scolded.
So wish me much luck as we set out on this adventure. I'm sure at times it's going to be frustrating. But the rewards are looking good.....

Oh the humor.
Having a toddler in the house can be challenging at times. Even stressful. But the funny things far outweigh all of that.
Lately, Talent has been learning so much. His speech seems to have just taken off. He's making animal sounds when we point at specific animals. He's saying new words. He's even trying to point out letters in his name. The new things he does each day amaze me and sometimes crack me up.
He's been shakin' his groove thing to The Wiggles a lot lately. It is too cute and so funny to watch. He actually has the moves down really well!
He also has a new obsession with shoes. Anytime there are shoes in the living room he has to put them on someone in the living room. Yesterday he put them on his dog, Redick. I'm glad Red is a good sport. He loves Talent and would probably let him saddle him up and ride him like a horse if Talent tried. After Talent put the shoes on Red he planted a big fat kiss right on his nose, complete with a smoothly sound. He loves that dog so much. He's currently hollering "Red Red" trying to get him to come to his room. (He doesn't realize the dog is outside.)
Talent has also learned how to wrestle. He likes to run and jump on you when you are laying on the floor. He finds this super hilarious. He laughs and thinks he has been super sneaky. He does this to me a lot.
This kid is always doing something to make me laugh. Even though his new found love of climbing makes me want to pull my hair out, I love hearing all his laughter fill our home. Listening to him laugh with his Daddy is my favorite. I never realized how much fun having a boy was going to be.

YAY!!!! YAY!!!! YAY!!!!!!
Okay, if you can't tell already I'm a little excited! Talent is a great kid. He's just a little bit picky when it comes to food. He knows what he wants and what he likes and it's hard to get him to try new things. He has NEVER liked mashed potatoes. EVER. Every time you give him a bite of them he wipes him mouth with a napkin and spits them out. It's hilarious and at the same time so frustrating. I mean, is he going to live on fries forever?? UGH! That thought alone has been enough to nearly send me over the edge for a while. I want my kid to eat healthy. I try and feed him grilled chicken, veggies, salad even......he's just picky. It doesn't help that the things he would prefer he's allergic to. Strawberries & grapes are two of his newest allergies and while I thought it wasn't a really big deal, turns out it kind of is. He breaks out in eczema all over when he has one or the other. And while other people might not think that eczema is that big of a deal, it is. He scratches and will sometimes scratch so hard he bleeds. It's uncomfortable for him. His skin doesn't feel good and he knows that something is wrong but he doesn't know how to tell me. He cries and scratches. I hate that. So here we are at a stand still.....with food.
The last few weeks I've been changing up his routine a little at dinner time. He eats when we eat and he eats what we eat (with the exception of fries) most nights. There are some evenings when he is just not having it. He won't try the meat, even though it's chicken and he loves chicken, and he wants a waffle or a piece of bread, or yogurt. Toddlers, they can be so difficult at times!
A few nights ago we had baked potatoes and he kept trying to reach into it with his fork. Now, he's pretty sweet when it comes to food. He likes to feed me and he likes to share. He doesn't do this with just anyone. Mostly just me, probably because I'm the only one that will eat what he has to offer. When he kept trying to stick his fork in my potato I thought he was just wanting to feed me. I waited until I had hardly any potato left and I finally let him have at it. To my surprise, he put the potato in HIS mouth! Granted he spit it right back out. (Apparently he doesn't like sour cream!) I thought it was pretty funny. But he didn't ask for my potato again. He ended up eating the rest of his fries and some of his meat.
Tonight I had steak, mashed potatoes, and corn. Talent wanted something different all together so I made him something else. He ate his dinner and then came to sit beside me while I ate mine. I always cut up a few pieces of meat extra small just in case he wants to try it. I tried to give him a bite and he shook his little head and said "NO!" So, I waited and tried again...still, no. So the next time he acted like he wanted something I offered him a bite of corn. Yeah, that didn't go over well either. He spit it out faster than anything I've ever seen. Finally, he grabbed my hand (the one with the fork in it) and put it in the potatoes, I scooped up a little bit, thinking he's going to spit them out, and gave him a bite. He actually ate them. He kept asking for more and ended up eating several bites. I have never been more excited about mashed potatoes in my life.
In this crazy world of parenting an allergic kid, food is a BIG deal. It's so hard to find new things for him to eat that I can get my husband to eat. I'm pretty easy to please but my husband isn't. So finding things to cook so I'm not cooking all night and for 2 different meals is sometimes complicated. I am so glad to be making progress with his eating and trying new things.
