Lately Talent has been showing an interest in the potty. He touches himself when he pees to let me know he is going, runs and grabs a diaper and wipes when he had pooped, and has started wanting to sit on this potty we have that is a little too big for him. So, Seth and I bought him a potty and it arrived today. I got him an "Elmo Potty Time" video also. Today when his potty and video arrived I went and picked it up. We took a trip to the store to buy him a package of pull-ups too. While there we stopped to look at underwear because I've been told some children don't respond well to pull-ups and train better in regular undies because they don't like feeling wet. I didn't plan on buying those today but T saw some Thomas undies and started making his "choo choo" sound until I handed them to him. He is super excited about those underwear.
We got home and had lunch. I let him have a soda (which I don't do often) and tried to jump start his little bladder. We put on his pull-up and he played a little while. I got the potty out and showed it to him. I played the Elmo video. He sat on the potty and looked at me like I was a crazy lady. He never peed. He took his nap and woke up dry.
When Talent got up from his nap I have him a glass of ice water and sent him to play. He finally peed but I don't know that he really even noticed. So this afternoon I got Ernie out and put some undies on him. I grabbed a medicine dropper and filled it with water and brought Ernie to the living room. I made a big deal about Ernie needing to use the potty. He watched as Ernie sat on the potty and "tee tee'd". When Ernie was done I clapped and screamed "yay Ernie! He pottied like a big boy!" Talent clapped and then wanted to sit on the potty too.
Since Ernie's big potty adventure, Talent keeps taking him to the potty. He hasn't say on it again himself. It's a start though. I will gladly take it. I think he will take a few days to get comfortable with the potty but once he does, I think he will be an easy one to train. He's super smart and if he's rewarded for doing a good thing, he just glows. He's like his momma that way. I hate feeling like I'm in trouble. But make me feel like I'm doing a good thing and I will move heaven and earth for you. I love to be praised. Hate to be talked down to. My child is going to be a lot like that I'm afraid. He already loves to be nurtured and hates to be scolded.
So wish me much luck as we set out on this adventure. I'm sure at times it's going to be frustrating. But the rewards are looking good.....
