Potty day 2!

Today was our second day with the potty in the house and our first full day of potty training. It took some bribing, dancing, and a lot if drinking. But, I'm very proud to announce that Talent peed in the potty twice! It wasn't much, but every tiny but matters when you are teaching a stubborn boy about how to potty without a diaper.

We started off the morning with a pull-up so he could have breakfast without having to feel out of his comfort zone. But as soon as breakfast was done and I had gotten myself ready, it was time for naked day. He doesn't respond well to the pull ups. To him they are just like a diaper. The underwear aren't a whole lot better at this point either. With him completely naked he noticed when he needed to pee and he would beg for a diaper. Finally he got a little bit of a break for lunch. We put on a pull up and headed out for lunch. He ate and then took a nap. After nap it was back to naked time. He did really well. He finally sat on the potty and took a water break and peed in the potty on accident. He was a little startled and upset at first. But then he realized he got stickers for peeing in the potty and all was well again. After a while it was time for dinner and we attempted to eat with him in undies but he couldn't get comfortable. Finally he had a small accident so I put him in a pull up and told him that accidents happen and it was okay. He realized he wasn't in trouble so he went back and finished his supper. After supper we went and got his bath ready and he got all cleaned up. He was getting a little whiney and so we got out of there to get ready for bed. I was ready to call it a day. He started to pee on me (joy of potty training) as I was carrying him to his room. We quickly got to the potty and he finished on the potty. It wasn't much, but it was pee in the potty and that called for a celebration and more stickers! This time he wasn't scared. He even smiled and celebrated a little with me. He didn't want to get dressed then. So I let him stay naked for a little bit longer. When my mom showed up to visit he was still naked. But he was so excited to show her his new potty! That shows me that he's getting excited too. He likes to show off things he is proud of. So I was excited to see him so excited. I think the next few days may be a little harder. Seth is home and has things he wants to do. Staying here and letting T be naked all day may not be an option. But the seed has been planted at least. So I'm excited to see the progress he makes.

  1. It does take time and you are being so patient and encouraging with Talent. You're making it non-stressful for him. You're a great mom and he is doing so well with it. There will be good days and bad days but he'll get there. You're doing an amazing job with him!
